Snack Privacy Policy

Last updated: November 1, 2026

Snack is a food-logging app. This page explains what data Snack collects, why, and where it goes.

What Snack collects

What Snack does not do

Third parties

Meal photos and descriptions are sent to Google's Gemini API solely to generate a nutrition estimate, under Google's own API terms. Google may keep a copy of these requests for up to 28 days to help with debugging, and then deletes it, under Google's own API terms. Scanned barcode numbers (only the number) are looked up in USDA FoodData Central and Open Food Facts, public product databases, from Snack's server. Snack's backend runs on Amazon Web Services (AWS); AWS stores the pieces described above (your opaque account identifier, and, if provided, your Sign-in-with-Apple name/email, and any support requests you send) but does not otherwise process your data independently. Email replies to your support requests are delivered by Amazon Simple Email Service, also part of AWS. If your reply address is an Apple private relay address, Apple forwards the email to your real inbox under Apple's own terms. Crash/error diagnostics (described above) are sent to Sentry, under Sentry's own terms and privacy policy. If you enable push notifications, their delivery goes through Apple's Push Notification service, under Apple's own terms.

Your choices

Sign in with Apple is required to use Snack. You can revoke Health access at any time in iOS Settings → Health, or Settings → Snack. Deleting the app removes your on-device food log (unless synced to iCloud, where Apple's own iCloud data controls apply).

Deleting your account and data. You can delete your Snack account at any time from inside the app: Settings, then Account, then Delete Account and Data. Snack asks you to confirm with Apple, then right away deletes the records it holds about you (your account details including your Sign in with Apple name and email, the saved nutrition replies and their full troubleshooting copies, and any support requests you sent with their screenshots and logs) and revokes Snack's Sign in with Apple access in your Apple ID.

You can also ask by email: write to privacy@trysnack.app from the email address on your account (if you used Apple's Hide My Email, write from the address that forwards to it, or start the deletion in the app). We check that the request really comes from you before deleting anything, and we delete your records and reply within 30 days of your request.

What deletion cannot reach: encrypted backups of Snack's databases keep a rolling 35-day restore window, so deleted records disappear from those backups within 35 days, and they are never restored to bring an account back. Server logs contain only the opaque account identifier described above, never your name or email, so once your account record is deleted they can no longer be tied to you; they expire on the schedule described above. Crash reports in Sentry, which can carry your name and email, are deleted by Sentry automatically after at most 90 days; ask by email if you want them removed sooner. Your food log on your own devices and in your own iCloud is yours: the app can erase this iPhone's copy, and you can delete the iCloud copy in your iPhone's Settings (your name, then iCloud, then Storage, then Snack).
